I'm about ready to blow. I'm quite sure my heart rate has gone up and therewith, my blood pressure. I will keep this short. It will not be sweet.

How can anyone be so vindictive as to rate a gracious, generous, well meaning post like this one with anything less than all the stars possible? It seems so heartless and cruel. I realize this is not the place to attempt reformation. Suffice it to say that underneath my anger is a deep, real sympathy that the lives of some are so tortured that there is pleasure in making others feel small.

I'm sorry. The world is a very complicated place.

I guess I haven't been around long enough to know all the players well enough. Are Colleen and the others farmers?

I didn't know posts could be rated. I didn't see where any of the replies were in the negative of the OP's comment. How does one find where a thread was rated badly?

I went and gave it a 5 just to boost it up.

However...

... I once rated a thread a 5, went to click the submit button, and my click-happy fingers re-rated the thread to a 1 and submitted before I could do anything. There, I've confessed. :tongue_smilie: Maybe someone did the same thing with this thread?

That's happened to me before too. :tongue_smilie:

I agree with you, it drives me crazy. Whenever I see a thread that's got a low star rating I rate it 5 stars in an attempt to bump up the rating.

I wish I could believe that was the case here. But, I think not. I rarely ever rate threads, but for rather obvious reasons, this one spoke to me. I rated it right after Cyndi posted it. Mine was the only reply. The next time I noticed it, there were four stars. Then three. It was deliberate.

Well the good thing is that we can all run right over and correct that er, um, error.

I believe that the vast majority of people who come here are well meaning. But there are definitely some who take delight in stirring up trouble and being generally negative. It's sad.

I voted - 5 stars - and I had never even thought to vote before. Wow, I am learning something new every day.

Now, if I could just remember to rep. folks, I would be so happy! :D

What exactly do the stars mean?

Is less than 5 stars bad?

What does it mean if a post has no stars?

If you look at the toolbar at the top of a thread (once you've clicked on it), you'll see a button that reads "Rating". One star is "terrible", two is "bad", three is "average", four is "good", five is "excellent". The number of stars displayed reflects an average of all those who have rated it. If a post has no stars, it simply means no one has rated it. That's fine. Most threads aren't rated, presumably because no one bothers. Less than five stars isn't "bad", but when a thread quite obviously drops in rating after only a few views (in the case of the thread in discussion, it went from five to four to three stars with only about 35 views), it means someone(s) is voting for a very poor rating in order to bring a high rating down that significantly or that suddenly.

Does that make sense? Hope so.

There must be something going on I don't know about and probably would be better off not knowing!!! Why anyone would mark down a thread thanking a farmer for feeding us, I can't understand.

I just voted.

You're right. You *are* better off not knowing. It's petty and ridiculous. And it's a shame how some people feel better putting other people down. Isn't that what bullies do in grammar school???

Off to boost the vote!

Aaaah, thank you! I never rated a thread. If I would have clicked on it, I would have been able to answer my own questions. I'm sorry!

And I'm sorry people have to be mean about stuff like this.
