HollyinNNV Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 My ds really, really did not like copywork. It wasn't that he didn't like the physical act of writing. But, he hated what he was actually copying. So, I started finding some interesting things for him to copy and he started asking to do his copywork FIRST! Here's a sampling of his copywork. "With great power comes great responsibility. This is my gift and my curse. I am Spiderman." Ds and I talked about what a curse is. Then we talked about how something can be both good and bad. "Do you smell that? That smell.....it's the smell of a smelly smell that smells smelly." Spongebob How many different parts of speech is the word "smell" in this sentence? Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die. Why is Inigo capitalized, but "father" is not? We talked about that. "It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." Albus Dumbledore What is the difference between a choice and an ability? What are some unusual teaching methods you employ? Inspire me! Holly Quote
milovany Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 When our oldest son was still learning to read (7 or 8 years old), I put away the Alpha Phonics book and rewrote the chapters of his favorite American Indians book in simple language (the Indians book by Holling C. Holling). He loved it! His reading attempts took on a whole new meaning to him -- he wanted to read his favorite book out loud! Quote

HollyinNNV Posted July 11, 2008 Author Posted July 11, 2008 I don't have anything to inspire you with, but I love these! May I use them? Use 'em. I wish I could make up a book and distribute it. But, I suppose copyright issues would prevent it.:glare: Holly Quote
