SS in MD
Hi all, School year is approaching FAST and I'm in search of a fun, hands-on physics curriculum for my 8 yo & 11 yo (3rd & 5th grades)? They enjoy reading living books and hands on experiments (that work! lol). I would prefer a package curriculum rather than piecing something together. Thanks so much for the help! NittanyJen
Have you looked at NOEO? That is secular, and all-in-one. I used their chemistry materials for my 3rd and 5th (roughly) graders last year, and we had a blast. It doesn't come out until about Aug 20, but for your 5th grader, a nice supplement might be Life of Fred: Physics. I can only recommend this based on the strength of the rest of the LoF series, which we love; it would also be dependent somewhat upon where your 5th grader is in math-- you could write to the author with any questions about its use since nobody has really seen it yet, but my hopes are high :). The table of contents, index, and some sample pages are posted already at ztwist books (which offers free shipping and a generous return policy). For Noeo, not sure what level to buy? I think Level 2 would work for both. But the Usborne Internet Linked Science Encyclopedia is the spine text and it is a little hard for my 11 yo to undertand, wish there was another spine. We have used LOF as a supplement in the past (LOF Frac & Dec & Pcts) I'll definitely look into this program! Thanks! Thank you for your help! dbmamaz
Lab of Mr Q has physics also. i was surprised how little physics i could find for elementary, but i also remember my kids who went to school seemed to study nothing but life science for the first 5 years of school. i kinda hate life science. JMDRAD
I haven't used the Physics but check out Elemental Science http://www.elementalscience.com/physics.html We are using the Chemistry this year and it's going well. It's based on TWTM suggestions.
