Ruth Smith
Hi! I need suggestions for American History. I am hoping for a good skeleton with project ideas. I will use it with a K & 5th at the same time...so I want to add more reading for the 5th grader. Any ideas?
Farrar
I don't think there's a perfect option. I looked at a lot of secular possibilities on my blog here awhile back. Maybe do something like the Complete Book of US History and add in resources? Or maybe do something like the Betsy Maestro books for the early part of history with added resources? Aurelia
Guesthollow has an elementary age US history curriculum. I used a lot of those ideas as a base with The Complete Book of United States History and have had a good year. You can use it with fewer books for the kindergartner, or have the younger work through Elemental History's US history curriculum, which is designed for K-1. Crimson Wife
I Love America! is good for K and aside from that, I'd just have the younger student listen to picture books related to the topics the older one is studying. That's what I did the past 2 years with my DS. My oldest DD used the Catholic Schools Textbook Project From Sea to Shining Sea: The Story of America as her "spine". Momma_Bear
Creek Edge Press American History Task Cards, it keeps them on the same topics but they will do work at different levels and read different books (I'd actually read aloud the books to the K'er though). I think it would work well :001_smile:

I purchase the download recently, and will be using this with my 2nd grader. It looks great, I am very pleased with it. :)
ByGrace3
What about sonlight core d and e and add the Guerber books for the younger when they fit in. That is our tentative plan for next year adding books from Truthquest for my younger.
