laughing lioness
If you or your kiddo is on a team, how do you generate team spirit? I am looking for ideas on how to start/close a program, how to build team enthusiasm and that "sense" of being together on something cool. Mandamom
My daughter's gym team has a big/little sister program that helps a lot. Of course, with more than a hundred girls on the team (biggest in our state) on all of the levels, this kind of program helps a lot.
mereminerals
My husband talked about taking ds' baseball team to play paintball to build a sense of unity among them before the season starts.
extendedforecast
The kids on my daughter's softball team made up nicknames for each other. This seemed to help bring them together, especially when their coach called them by their nicknames at practice and games (the lineup in the dugout was made up of their nicknames). laughing lioness
Love the poster and paper idea! I have a whole page of ideas now- woot! I'll take more though, if others have them :001_smile:
woolybear
Love these ideas. I also second the idea of get togethers outside of practice/games or meets. The more opportunity they have to be lighthearted and play together in fun, the more it will bring them closer.
laughing lioness
The older ones make up the cheers and teach them to the team..usually high school type stuff. Later in the season, when the younger ones have learned them, they take turns leading. This group likes the type: Leaders of cheer say: I say: Go (insert team name) with a windup type of voice You say: Rest of Team says: Go (insert team name) repeat that interchange 3x, speeding up each time, with applause and general noise at end. Cheers get more complicated from there, spelling out the team name and so forth. More ideas can be had from cheer squads, or by going to a college game. Mascots are also fun to use, especially if someone is injured. They might be able to wave a poster, or don a costume. I think we could do this! :001_smile:
