Apologia Astronomy Notebook, yay/nay?

Hopefully someone else will chime in with what exactly is in the journal. I just wanted to say that we just used the free notebook pages and the kids loved them. Science was their favorite subject last year. I have heard that the journal is important for some of the courses (like anatomy), but I don't think astronomy is one of them.

Hi, if you go onto http://www.christianbook.com'>http://www.christianbook.com'>http://www.christianbook.com'>http://www.christianbook.com , you can see samples of the Notebooking Journal. There is more content in the NBJ than in the free notebooking pages from Apologia's website. I'm also getting ready to buy the textbook and the NBJ, so I was comparing them this morning. The NBJ has much more. Some of the free notebooking pages look like they're just lined paper with squares. The NBJ had crossword puzzles, reading comp questions, etc.

Anyway, have you been on http://www.christianbook.com ? The Apologia stuff was on sale 33% off this morning when I was on there. So, the NBJ was 16 bucks, instead of 25.

I guess it depends on what your budget's like for science (I usually DON'T buy the notebooking journals for Apologia). I have a little extra to spend on school this fall, so I'm just going to buy it this time (especially since it's on sale).

We purchased the NBJ for this coming school year, but I really like the look of them. I am not sure what is offered on the website but on sale I only paid $16.80 for them so by the time I print everything from the website and add in the time it takes to get it all organized, I am happy to pay for the convenience of having it already put together.

The NBJ are great for certain kinds of homeschoolers - not so much for other kinds of homeschoolers. You will have to determine whether they are a fit for you. Don't feel like you have to do every page in the journal and if your children don't enjoy the journals, don't do them. Elementary science is about promoting joy in learning and discovery. Don't make it a drudgery. Some kids love, love, love the journals. Others don't. Do your kids like to do worksheets and write or cut and paste? If not, don't get them. Make sure science is fun so they'll love science for a lifetime.
