Modesty...your thoughts...

Recommended Posts

Well if they were taking responsibility for THEIR actions like they should, then the perpetrator would say that.

Just like we all should say, yes, I had a lustful thought or yes, I broke it, or yes, I stole it were we guilty of any of those things.

Or gee maybe, yes, I was molested and shouldn't have been and it is not OK for him to have done that but the lesson I learned is that I won't dress in a fashion that has my breasts hanging out for all the world to see nor will I go to that type of place again. It sucks what happened to me, but I share in the responsibility for I knowingly went into it dressed poorly and had no business going into that place.

I do feel a modestly dressed woman riding a bus to the grocery store who happens to be raped is truly 100% a victim with no responsibility for what happened to her and I apologize that anything I posted earlier made anyone think I felt differently but I will stand behind my opinion that the scantily clad woman dressed like a two bit floozie hanging at the crime ridden street corner putting herself on display is 100% completely innocent of what happens to her. No, I don't feel all the little boys raped and molested by Catholic Priests asked for it but I would suggest to any Catholic friends now that we have seen this play out publicly for years, not leave their children unattended with their Priest. Sad but...one bad egg does tend to ruin it for all the good ones.

Catholic priests are by no means the only people who molest children. Do you never leave your children alone with anyone? What about their father? You know a lot of kids are molested by their fathers, right? Make sure you don't leave your girls with him, or it's your fault.

Do you think it's possible to rape a prostitute? If you don't, you should stop posting here and start thinking about your worldview.

You obviously have no clue as to what rape is all about. It isn't about modesty or immodesty. It is totally a power play. It doesn't matter what the victim was wearing or not wearing. It doesn't matter how old the victim was. It could very well be a prepubescent child or an infant molested not someone with "breasts hanging out for all the world to see."

Read up on what makes a rapist or molester pick his victim then get back we will see.

We simply don't live in a perfect Godly world anymore as this post has proven. We also all have differing views on modesty, lust, sexual depravity, responsibility, beauty, even art, etc...and hopefully we have all learned a little tolerance today from this and maybe the ability to view things from a different perspective or at the very least, respect each other enough to NOT drag them down for sharing their opinions when you DON'T agree with them.

Are you serious???

You know that Protestant pastors have molested kids, too, right? And that fathers, uncles, grandparents, neighbors, teachers, doctors, etc., have all molested kids. So, according to you, no mother should ever allow her child to be alone with any adult. Ever. And if she does, then she bears part of the blame if her child gets molested.

Your logic here is just... I don't even know what to say.

Even a prostitute deserves to not be raped. Yes, she chose to hang out on a crime ridden street corner to hock her wares, which happen to be her body.

Or maybe you'd rather see the irresponsible person who forced himself on her charged with theft instead of rape?

This thread has me shaking in anger. Molestation and rape are not about sex. They are about power.

Men are not beasts subject to their lusts. Neither are women. You can say "no" to lusts.

If you are so weak that you can't live in peace by the beach, then please, please move.

I'm not sure what you wanted from this thread. A bunch of people gasping in horror and agreeing with you at the moral depravity of others? I do agree that there is moral depravity in this world. I've found most of it elsewhere - in p*rn sites and sex clubs but perhaps it's at the bank and grocery store too, though I don't think so. Your dress is between you and the Lord. Sexual attraction is primary mental. Keep your mind pure and you don't have to worry so much about your private parts. If you wanted tips on how you can cover yourself, there are threads here on head coverings, burkinis and prairie dresses. And there are threads too on segregated swimming.

I can't believe you're trying to act like you advocate tolerance and respect.

Seriously! More children are molested by parents or siblings, so now we do not leave them alone together. What in the world!!!

OP, said gently, I think you are way to close to this and are struggling to find a way for your son to not be completely at fault for his choices. I know this is a tumultuous time, but this is not the right path for helping him or anyone else.

I believe in modesty. Heck, I wear a headcovering in church. What you are talking about is an entirely different issue. Your trying to make correlation equal causation and it doesn't work.

I am sorry for what you are going through right now.

It's perfectly OK ladies that, well I am guessing most of you, truly hate what I have had to say. I am fine with that. I will not knock any one of you for having the opinions you have about rape, molestation, priests, fathers, uncles, beaches, swim suits, etc.....all I ask is that you stop attacking me as you have been. Can't we all just :grouphug:? If you feel I am so ill-minded in my thoughts then pray for me. God knows my heart and while I may not have very eloquently placed those thoughts into words here today, for crying out loud, show me a little Grace.

:iagree: I really hope parents teach their daughters more than dressing modestly will protect them. Modesty doesn't amount to a hill of beans when it comes to a rapist/molester. It is all about power and opportunity. That opportunity can even be at home with the doors locked.

Do you know, OP, that you are endangering your children if you are teaching your beliefs about the culpability of that woman in the bad part of town with the low cut blouse being partially responsible???? I will explain why.

In studies of tweens and teen child sex abuse, that is children who are old enough to tell someone if someone is bothering them, it has become apparent who most of the victims are- children who for various reasons don;'t feel comfortable telling others about inappropriate behaviors. Some of those reasons are very judgmental parents and another common problem is the kid first did something wrong with the perpetrator- like had a drink, smoked either a cigarette or marijuana, watched some porn or what have you. That gets the perpetrator in a position to yield his power- I will tell your parents about X, or the kid himself thinks that I guess I deserve X because I did Y and that was really bad. It is why the Boy Scouts have movies shown to the kids and teach the material that no matter what you did or wore, sexual abuse is not your fault.

Have your own opinion, OP, but for the sake of your children's safety, don't teach it to them.
