Does anyone know the fastest way to find out if a particular text is free of copyright? My husband recently purchased a really nice microphone to record webinar stuff for his work, and I have often wanted to create recordings of favorite books/stories for our children. Now that I've fallen in love with things like Librivox and Lit 2 Go, I want to contribute, but I don't know where to start.

What is in need of recording, and copyright free?

:)

If you want to volunteer recording things for LibriVox then you can start by checking out:

For copyright the basic rule is if it was published before 1923 it's no longer copyrighted. (With a very few exceptions - such as "Peter Pan")
