~Amanda~
Sigh. Something new for me to obsess about. at least for today  I've only JUST discovered this today (quite by accident) and I've been doing researching the board mostly; I've seen a LOT of comparison of CQ to ES BFLS, and the general consensus is that ES has more. I think the thing about CQ that is appealing to me is the section on genetics and DNA that seems to be lacking in the ES Biology. So, based on just that, is it worth doing CQ instead of ES? Or should I stick with ES, and maybe supplement extra reading etc to cover genetics? Either way, I think I'm going to feel like its not quite enough, because DD is in 7th, and for the most part, its "understood" biology is done in 5th per the classical model. Any help talking it out is appreciated!
Country Mouse
We have been using Classiquest Biology this year and have really enjoyed it, but if memory serves the topic of genetics was covered in just one lesson. In fact, I supplemented with additional reading and the fruit fly lab in Froguts. I'm not trying to discourage you from buying Classiquest, but if you prefer ES then genetics probably shouldn't be a deal breaker. I think it would be easy to supplement ES and do your own little rabbit trail on genetics if that is important to you.
~Amanda~
Thank you. I just don't have the confidence to do it on my own; I think that's the appeal. I just need to do a bit more research as far as WHAT to add for the genetics. :)
Karen in CO
When we did genetics in CQ Biology, I supplemented with a unit on Dragon Genetics that I found online. The kids had a lot of fun breeding dragons for specific traits. If you google it, there are several really good units including printable worksheets and dna sequences. RootAnn
, Amanda! This was my obsession for months. You are free to take it over since I finally decided. (My oldest -- who is going into 6th, BTW -- will be doing ES.) Since I'm a tweaker, I'll be adding some of Tiner's Biology book. I don't see why you can't add genetics to ES's Logic Stage Biology. And, since y'all have given me the idea, I'm off to see where it'll fit into her plans. She'd love breeding dragons .... :tongue_smilie:

Any help talking it out is appreciated! I don't think it's understood that bio is done in 5th per the classical model. I've heard it suggested but that has to do with "linking" science to history periods and assuming you start with Ancients. Make the decision based on what is best for your family. It will work out, really.
