We are using AAS, so ds would still have some dictation practice (not as complicated dictations, though). Is there another skill we would be missing if we just did the stories/questions/narrations? These are skills that could be practiced across the curriculum if well-organized. For those of us who don't always have it together, the open-and-go workbooks are handy.
