Nestof3
Can we talk about what you've made and what you plan to prepare? I have a new subscription, and I have Post-it marked many from the July and August issues.
justLisa
I don't subscribe to the mag. How much is that one a year? I have been subscribing to the Cooks Illustrated website for I think 4 or 5 years now and it is AWESOME. They have all the Cooking Light recipes, and every recipe they have published. You can even sort by. You can sign up for a free 2 week trial. I don't cook light or anything near it, but often a lot of the lighter recipes are nice, they just need a helping of fat. justLisa
I get Cook's Country in the mail. I LOVE that one. I have thought about the online version. Seems extra great to be able to search for stuff. Oh yeah the Country one is great. I get the online of that, too. I think it is a separate charge but very reasonable. I forgot how much....I think it's something like $35 a year for both? I like just being able to browse every recipe without having to sift through mags. I DO love to browse a good cookbook but this is just so convenient and worth the $$. Nestof3
Okay, so basically this was a useless thread to start. :tongue_smilie:

It's funny, because I don't consider the recipes super light or anything.
justLisa
well there is a lighter guacamole recipe that looks interesting and uses pureed lima beans to lighten it up.
Nestof3
Honestly, neither do I, by any standard. I was rather disappointed by it. I didn't pay much for it, so no big deal, but yeah I wasn't crazy about it. I actually think, though, that they look really good. Lots of ideas for shrimp, cuts of beef, grilling, etc. Ideas for in-season vegetables and fruits. I subscribed years ago when I was single and spent more time trying new things. I saw it at the ortho office and decided to resubscribe. I'm actually looking forward to making several meals from the magazines. What I meant about the not super healthy is that it's not extreme or anything.

besroma
I haven't looked through the entire August 2012 issue yet, but I definitely want to try: Herbed Shrimp and White Bean Salad p. 24 and Zucchini and Caramelized Onion Quiche p. 120 Are you going to post when you try a recipe and post what you think of it? I will try to find my July issue! :tongue_smilie:
