I don't suppose anyone would be willing to talk to me and my ds

Ds and his friends play several different Axis and Allies games. Dh and I joke that the rules are like Calvinball from the old Calvin and Hobbes comics- the rules seems to constantly change and they are impossible to memorize.

There is one version that has a limit of ten turns- oh my word, I love that one. A game doesn't last all weekend!

Is axis and allies 1942, the basic axis and allies game? If so aircraft, both fighters and bombers participate in combat just like all other units. Figter scoring hits on 3 and bombers on 4. However aircraft can not capture territory and must be able to fly back to friendly space. So if it take 2 spaces to get to the battle fighters have 2 spaces left to fly somewhere else after the battle, bombers have 4.

Antiaircraft guns shot before battle, rolling for 1s that remove the plane before it fires. I think you roll a die for each attacking plane.

Fighters defend on 4, bombers on 1.

Bombers maybe used to bomb factories. You must have movement to reach the factory and a friendly space to land. Any AA guns fire at the bomber, then attacker rolls a die and defender loses that much money.

Calendula described the process well.

The game does take a while to set up.

Remember before battling can begin, the individual must determine which goods to purchase for that turn.

For a battle, the attacker

(1) decides where to attack.

(2) then determines how many units to bring to the battle

limited by movement and concern about counter attacks in the next turn

(3) Units in the battle are moved to the battle board (the small board that shows what die rolls units attack and defend at)

(4) the attacker rolls first to determine how many hits

one die for each unit in a category

(5) the defender rolls to determine how many hits

one die for each unit in a category

-it is assumed that shots are fired at the same time, so even though we have one person role than another, the defenders pieces still get a chance to defend that volley of fire

(6) Repeat steps 4 & 5 until

a) one side is eliminated

b) the attacker chooses to retreat

(7)

a) Attacker wins

If the attacker wins and has ground troops left, they take over the territory. At the end of the turn the attacker gets credit for the production units of the territory.

If the attacker only has planes, the territory does not change hands (planes must return to one of the attackers territories (not necessarily the one the left from ))

b) Defender wins

No change; return troops from battle board to defended territory

(8) attacker determines next move for their turn

a) if another battle repeat all above steps

b) otherwise

(1) move pieces to within own territories

(2) place purchased items on the board

Pace yourself, and enjoy!

I love how you say that after the above list. Whew! I'm exhausted just reading this. Now we need to find someone willing to play this with ds. I don't. :tongue_smilie:

Of course I just know I will be the one anyway.
