Hilltop
Does anyone here use the Jesus Storybook Bible curriculum? Would it work in a church? I am currently looking for a curriculum for my church's children's ministry. We have approximately 25 kids each Sunday, ranging in age from 4 years old to 10 years old. I am currently writing the lesson plan and planning the activities every week (thank you, Pinterest!), but it takes up a lot of my time. I would like something that is less time intensive, but still solid teaching. Any thoughts?
Mrs. Lilac
Just have to say, I LOVE "What's in The Bible" curriculum by Jelly Telly (company founded by the guy who started Veggie Tales.) I used it with a group of 30 kids between 5-10 and it was great. So much great theology and Bible, and so fun! As a teacher, I loved that it was very low-prep but didn't sacrifice the quality of the content.

We have three of the DVDs and *love* them. Does the curriculum include activities/crafts? Off to check it out. Thanks!
Mrs. Lilac
Yes, the church edition has crafts/games/take home pages, etc. And it's SO easy to set up!

One more question...what do you show the DVDs on? Does your church have a tv/DVD player or do you use something else? Thank you again for the recommendation. Hilltop
Bumping this to see if anyone else can weigh in on either the Jesus Storybook Bible curriculum or the What's in the Bible curriculum. Thanks again, Mrs. Lilac!
BoyOBoy
I've been waiting for more replies, too. We read that Bible with our boys and would love to try out the whole Bible curr for their Sunday school.

warneral
Or church is using the gospel story for children curriculum. It is similar in that it shows how the Old Testament is pointing toward Christ. It was somewhat inexpensive for our small church and is a 3 year curric from preschool to upper elementary that you just keep rotating over the years. I love it.there is a picture bible and devotion book which our family follows throughout the week to further flesh out what is learned I class o Sunday. The curriculum gives you ideas for object lessons to keep it interesting for the kids. http://gospelstoryforkids.com/portfolio/curriculum/ We own "what's in the bible" videos. sassenach
We're using JSB right now and I really like it. It's simple, effective and engaging. The only con is that the activities are often geared to the higher end of the age group. Our 4-5 year olds don't get a lot out of the activities, though they love the video. After this year, we're looking into the Gospel Project (different than the Gospel Story, off to check that out!). I have a friend who uses What's in the Bible and loves it, though she says it's definitely more about the Bible itself rather than the stories in the bible. (How did we get the bible, why did the prophets write those books, ect.)
warneral
The gospel story for kids has three different curriculum levels for different aged kids. Just FYI :)
...................
I HIGHLY recommend you check out The Gospel Project! We are using it this year and I love teaching it. It's got almost zero prep, it moves quickly, it's affordable, it includes videos each week to tell the Bible story, it includes Pre-printed worksheets, and Praise and Worship. It's a 3-year program going through the entire Bible, showing how the entire Bible points to and is connected to Christ. Not only that but the Gospel fits in EVERY week and it also includes teaching children how to pray. The children never get bored because they have small group time, large group time, then small group time again. Small group has games, bible searches, and prayer journaling. Large group time is the main lesson including teaching, discussion, videos, and worship. It's going very well, and it's very low prep! Gospelproject.com PS I am a big fan of The Jesus Storybook Bible. I don't want to sidetrack you from something great, but thought I'd mention The Gospel Project anyway because I've heard the Jesus Storybook curriculum doesn't provide enough near for a whole hour, doesn't have enough variety, and isn't good for a big age range. Conversely, The Gospel Project has 3 different age ranges to choose from, but can still be combined during large group time. We have our kids K-2 in "younger children" small group lessons and 3rd-5th grade in "older children" small group lessons, but we are all together for the large group lesson. It's really great to hear this review! I'm fairly certain that GP is where we're headed next. FYI: JSB fills about 45 min.
