thescrappyhomeschooler
I need to make or buy cushions like this. I want to do this in the area I'm setting up as a play area for the babies I watch. I'm looking online for cheap cushions and looking at the cost of buying foam and fabric to make my own. It's all really expensive. Anybody have any cheap solutions? mommaduck
Foam is expensive. Fabric expense is all based upon what you are looking at.
Guest
It is expensive! I was recently looking to make curtains/drapes. I thought I'd save a ton of money doing them myself. NOT! It's a bummer. Hope you find some cheap deals!
Plucky
Buy some cheap sheets instead of fabric. I don't have any ideas for the foam.
HSMWB
Look for 50% off coupons to JoAnn's/Craft Store and buy it that way - it is expensive.
Denise in Florida
I second the Joanns 40% coupons. You might also try adapting foam mattress pads for the cushion. I don't know if it will be any cheaper though since I have not priced out the pads. I know I saw some on sale for 'dorm' supplies the other day. If it does not have to be squared off edges you could use pillows for the foam. King Size pillows aren't that expensive, I bought one at target for dd18's dorm room and paid $8. Tap
For the foam, look at stores that sell camping gear. To buy a piece of foam from Joannes was over $30 on sale. The same piece (a little bigger than sleeping bag size) was $8 at Fred Meyer, sold as a 'camp pad' to sleep on. I don't know if FM still sells it, but otherwise call and check camping, military surplus or survivalist stores. I would guess that the less brand-name a store you find, the more likely that they will have raw foam (as opposed to a nice wrapped, brand name product). serene
Just recently, I bought two pre-cut foam pieces from Walmart. I layered them on the window bench, and they were cheaper than the foam from Joann's (even with a coupon). I'd been looking for a solution for months when I stumbled on the precut pieces at Walmart. I was just about ready to break down and pay Joann's price, glad I didn't!
