SFM
I am really enjoying Singapore 3A/3B for my 3rd grade son and am interested in beginning something with my 4 year old daughter who is BEGGING to do her "homework". What is the difference between Singapore Essentials K and the Standards Edition K program? I notice a significant price difference, what are the differences and pros and cons? She really is JUST beginning to understand math concepts. Advice? Also, I am not overly concerned and want something for her to just feel "involved" with us and I really do not have a lot of time to invest in something that is really teacher intensive over a PreK/K program. Heidi
I've never used early bird, but I've used essentials with both my olders and starting it this year with my 4 yr old. I love them, kids love them. Hth.
SFM
Thanks for your response. Did you just go from the Essentials to 1A/1B?
momtolgd
My 5yo ds is halfway through book B of Essentials, and it has been perfect for him! I haven't really scheduled it for him through this year, but he begs to do it and will do 2 to 6 pages in a sitting. I have no experience with the other, but Essentials was the perfect choice for him this year! :001_smile: We will move onto Standards edition 1A and Miquon Orange book once he finishes this. zoo_keeper
My oldest did Essentials A/B at 4 and my middle at 3 (because she, too, wanted her very own workbook!) and they transitioned to SM US ed 1A without a problem thereafter.
Kathryn
I read lots of threads on this. Essentials is preferred by most people over Earlybird, and students go onto 1A once they finish Essentials A and B.
Heidi
Thanks for your response. Did you just go from the Essentials to 1A/1B? I'm sure you could. I start Math Mammoth 1 instead.
boscopup
Thanks for your response. Did you just go from the Essentials to 1A/1B? Yep, Essentials A and B are a full Kindergarten math program. Then you go to 1A/1B. We just started 1A (almost done with the first unit), and it's been a seamless transition. I really liked Essentials. SFM
Thank you guys. I am still a newbie at this, only been homeschooling about 6 months. I just started Singapore with my son and it just clicks, with he and I both. I am so glad we found it, we use Horizons as a review spiral and the combo works great. I will order Essentials then and then transition to 1A/1B. When did you start 1A/1B in Kindergarten or First "grade"?
redsquirrel
You could always start her with MEP reception. It is free for printing out. My son adored it when he was 4. We blew right through it, lol, but I we have such positive memories.
