ksr5377
than the ones I can buy at Walmart or Target? I need 4 tall bookshelves. I can deal with not overloading them but they have to handle being full. I have one Target shelf, but it's for craft supplies and it never has to handle the weight of a full shelf of books. Just trying to figure out if it's worth the hour drive to Ikea in the long run:)
RobynV
Yes, definitely sturdier. And they don't look as cheap, IMHO.

Petrichor
Mine is full to the gills with books. Planning on buying another soon!
Evergreen State Sue
I have 6 bookcases in my schoolroom that make up 2 corner units, and I have 2 bookcases in my kitchen for a pantry. They look nice and are very sturdy - I have no worries about excess weight on the shelves. I would love to use the doors on them in the schoolroom, but my large notebooks hang over so the doors wouldn't work. That is my only complaint. justLisa
I think so. ANd the one aspect I love is that you can buy the height extension to send them up to the ceiling. And you can buy doors
BinahYeteirah
Yes, we like ours a lot; they look nicer than the Walmart/Target variety. I agree about the height extension, too.
annlaura
Love mine, too. And if you want more later, Ikea will most likely still make them. But stores like Target change their offerings all the time, it seems.

Pink Fairy
My cheapies always bow in the middle, but my Billies never do.
Hockey Mom
My cheapies always bow in the middle, but my Billies never do. :iagree: And they are so much easier to put together too. We drove two hours to the nearest Ikea store to get our shelves. They are worth every dime.
readinmom
I've had both, and the Walmart/Target ones bowed in the middle as previously posted. They also started peeling on the corners. The IKEA ones look nice, hold up well. There are always some on Craigslist if you are looking for a price break.
