Liz CA Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 We want to combine a devotional with our regular Bible curriculum. This is for a 12th grader. Thanks! Quote
Natalieclare Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 My girls have enjoyed some devotionals that were specifically written for girls. One of their favorites really surprised me, in fact I can't even believe they chose it off the shelf. It's called Dear Princess, published by Rod and Staff. The reason this choice is so surprising is that my girls are not girlie girls; they're really more country/horsey. They forbade anyone from calling their baby sister "princess" and refuse to wear pink clothing. Anyway, my oldest dd snuck it into her room, read it when her sister could not see her, and LOVED it. She then talked her (13yo, particularly prickly) sister into going through it with her. I have never seen anything beside the Bible yield so much fruit in both their lives! Some of the issues brought up were a bit....amusing? irrelevent? to us, as in the vanity of pin curls. But it all made for great discussion, that is when they would tell me about it at breakfast. I was REALLY jealous when I found out my dds were doing an early morning girl thang. I mean, what about ME??? JK, it pleased me greatly to see them encouraging one another. We love anything by Bob Schultz: Boyhood and Beyond, Created For Work, and Practical Happiness. Have you already gone through the quintessential devotional: My Utmost for His Highest? I really liked that one my freshman year of college. Quote
tinag Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 My 17yo dd has been using this one and really likes it- A Young Woman After God's Own Heart: A Teen's Guide to Friends, Faith, Family, and the Future http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?item_no=07890&netp_id=294396&event=HPT&item_code=WW&view=covers ETA: I just saw your post on the other board and it looks like you are looking for a devotional for a boy. My ds is using Pursuit of Holiness. It's a good book. I believe both books I mentioned have study guides. http://www.navpress.com/Store/Product/9781576839324.html I also saw a book I would like to order for my son called Do Hard Things. Quote

I forgot about Do Hard Things. My 3 older kids went to the Do Hard Things conference and loved it. I've heard the material in the book closely matches the conference. My husband was very impressed and my kids were stretched and encouraged. Good suggestion. Quote
tinag Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I didn't know that there was a conference. I will have to look into that! Thanks.:) Quote
