Hoot
DS13 has a rather new found (within the last 6 months or so) passion for filmmaking. My in-laws bought him a camera for Christmas and we found a week-long filmmaking camp for him at a local college, which has only made him MORE excited. What else can I do to encourage him and feed his passion? Are there any websites out there about or by other teenage filmmakers? Any particularly good books, products, tutorials etc.? Any curriculums?
TammyS
Check with your local extension office. Ours actually has a 4H film making club (I know, it doesn't sound 4H like, but apparently they do it). Send out some emails on your local homeschool group and see if other teens would be interested in doing something together.

Ooh I actually DID just send out an email to some local homeschool groups but I never would have thought of 4H. Good idea. BTW, I noticed that you're in MD; you wouldn't be near DE would you? :tongue_smilie:

I live near Hebron, which you've probably never heard of, because no one has, but it's fairly near to Salisbury. You?

I'm in Newark, DE, which is about 2 hrs. from you. You're only about 40 min. from my in-laws in Bridgeville though. :D

Any curriculums? Apple movie-making curriculum: http://images.apple.com/education/docs/Apple-Moviemakingcurriculum.pdf ETA: Also, http://www.creativelive.com/courses/vince_laforet/ (course by adult, teens can probably take it), Filmmaking for Dummies, The Shortie Awards http://www.mhznetworks.org/education/shortieawards/ (not up right now, but maybe it will be by the time your ds has something ready!), National History Day documentary category Edited July 15, 2012 by klmama

FourOaks
Crystal Creek Media just started offering film camps. My daughter attended the one in St. Louis and loved it. Here is a link to their DVDS that your son may find helpful. http://www.crystalcreekmedia.com/store/film-camp-dvds
laughing lioness
ABQMom's kids have made several movies: her is her blog, click on "movies" - it's pretty inspiring http://followthetumbleweedroad.blogspot.com/2012/06/wordless-wednesday-movie-making-2012.html I've been working on creating a "media" class for our co-op. I've been calling local universities to find out more. So far I've talked to 2 dept heads at 2 diff U's- both of whom have given me book suggestions and invited our class for a tour of their facilities- along with some good starting points. The gal at the State U. suggested starting with a word press blog- because the kids can download video, audio and writing- the 3 components of media. She said the #1 thing to empahsize is excellent writing.
