JaneP
Just curious... how long are your Sunday church services and how long are the sermons? Our services are 1 1/2 hours long and the sermons are between 35 - 40 minutes.
QueenCat
60-75 minutes. Sermons are 15-20 minutes. Usually the longer services are on Communion Sundays (first Sunday of the month) or if someone decides to get baptized/have baby baptized, confirmed or become members. This is an United Methodist Church. Edited to add: Sunday School is separate from the service. It is held in between the two services. It is for all ages, including adults (well infants and toddlers are in the nursery, not in Sunday School). Coffeemama
Mass at my church (Catholic) is between 45-50 minutes. Homily is maybe 15 minutes, hard to know for sure, I've never timed it.
Parrothead
We generally get out after 65 minutes. Depending on the topic or if there are any extras (like the financial report) we could be longer. Father's homily is 10-15 minutes of power packed message. Oh, I'm Catholic.
carlychan
We are usually actuall there for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, but that includes a Sunday School hour. Our sermons are usually 45 minutes. We are missionary baptist.
Soror
60-75 minutes here. I've never timed any particular part. Catholic. Special services, ie Christmas, Easter, etc can be up to 3 hrs.
Chris in VA
Service itself is usually from 9am til about 10:05. Can run later if there's a baptism or commissioning or something. We have Eucharist every Sunday. Sermons usually run 12-15 mins. They are not teaching sermons like, say, Calvary Chapel has (though we do learn something...:D). We have Sunday School for everyone inbetween the services. It lasts about 50-55 minutes. That's where the teaching happens in my church. happyhomemaker
Our services are 1 1/2 hours long and the sermons are between 35 - 40 minutes. This is what our service is like. jelbe5
Lutheran (ELCA) here. Traditional service is 60-70 minutes with a 15-20 minute "lesson". Contemporary service is about 45 minutes with same lesson.
prairiegirl
Our service usually lasts 75 min. The message takes about half an hour. We visited a Pentecostal church a few weeks ago and the service was 2 hrs long but it seemed to go faster than our own service. :D

Pamela H in Texas
Jehovah's Witness - Public Talk (like a sermon) is 30 minutes, then there is the study from the Watchtower publication. Both together, the prayers, plus a song at the beginning, between the two, and at the end come to 1 hour 45 minutes. It is that way every time. ktgrok
Episcopal, about 1 hr and 15 minutes, sermon is about 15-20 minutes maybe? It is a fraction of the service. Personally I prefer a more tightly written 15 minute service, with an hour long service, but this works.

PeacefulChaos
1.5-2 hours. Worship about an hour, preaching 30-45 minutes. Oh, I didn't count Sunday School. That is an hour long, before the church service starts.
*********
We homechurch. The official arrival time is 11am, but I don't think we usually start until 11:15ish. We have our meeting, then lunch, then people stay as long as they want talking, playing volleyball, whatever. So, including the meal, it's anywhere from 3 to 8 hours. Kathryn
Episcopal Church 8-9am: Rite I service (15 minute sermon) 9:15-10:15am: Sunday school 10:30-11:45am: Rite II service (15 minute sermon) 12ish: "coffee hour" 12:30-?: Spanish service The Eucharist is every Sunday at every service. Rite I vs. Rite II at our church is only different in that at Rite II, we sing (during worship, the Lord's Prayer, and hymns throughout) whereas the Rite I service has no singing. There is a bigger difference between the services at other churches.

forty-two
Service is about 60 min (not counting announcements at the end, but that's technically after the service, not part of it); sermon is 15-20 min. The service can go a bit longer on communion Sundays (1st and 3rd of the month) or when there is a baptism (or when the pastor gets a bit long winded ;)). Sunday School/Bible class is entirely separate - we have services at 8am and 10.45am, with SS in between, at 9.15am. We're Lutheran, LCMS :). Whereneverever
We have two morning services, each about an hour and fifteen minutes. Both are strictly Liturgical. The sermon is probably 20-30 minutes, depending on the texts and which pastor preaches. We have communion weekly at alternating services. In between the two services we have fellowship time and then Sunday School and above Study. A few times a month we have a meal after the second service. LCMS Lutheran. edithcrawley
Services are supposed to be about an hour, but with the current pastor, they tend to run about 15 minutes over because his sermons are rather long. They run even longer when something extra is happening (like communion on 1st Sunday of the month or baptism etc) because he doesn't adjust his sermon length to allow for the extra items. His sermons are around 25-30 minutes. United Methodist here.
SKL
About an hour total, give or take, depending on whether or not it's a Communion Sunday. The sermon is probably around 20-30 minutes though I've never timed it.
Sparkle
We have Matins first, but most people don't come to that. It goes for about and hour and 15 min. Then Divine Liturgy is approximately 1 1/2 hours. If there is a memorial afterward, add about another 10 minutes. Then we have Sunday School for the kids, which is short, about 10 minutes. We always have coffee hour too for everyone. Usually we're not out of there until about 1 pm. (This is an Orthodox church, BTW). At the Catholic church my dh attends, Mass is an hour more or less, homilies are usually about 15-20 minutes.

An interesting aside -- there can only be one Divine Liturgy a day in an Orthodox church, so no back-to-back services. nono
Around here, Roman Catholic masses are pretty tightly timed to be about :55.. Episcopal masses go almost exactly 1:05. Since it's almost the exact same Mass, the difference is the singing goes longer in the Episcopal churches (hey, there's second verses to these hymns!) and the sermons are a couple minutes longer. Pretty even though. When I'm in a hurry, it's always the first mass of the day at an RC church. Gets me in and out in about :35. ;) (no singing, shorter homily at 6:30 a.m.)
Denise in Florida
One hour total. 15 minutes or so for sermon. Lawana
United Methodist here. Service is usually 65 minutes, sometimes 70, with about a 15 minute sermon. We start 5 minutes before the hour for announcements. The service is broadcast on the radio and they try hard to stay on a schedule. On communion Sundays other parts of the service are shortened to make it all fit.

TheApprentice
Ours runs between 70-80 minutes.
