LearnLaughLove
What is the best planner (paper or online) for scheduling for two kids? I tried just writing a schedule out but got nowhere fast. Thanks!!!
ednkirstin
My personal vote would be for Homeschool Tracker. I've used HST+ for several years, but I've switched to the Online version. My favorite feature is that my kids can login and see their own schedule. This has lent itself to greater independence and my kids really like it! I also like that I can add internet links to their assignments. So, for example, say there's a video clip that goes along with the lesson for the day that you want them to see. You can add the link to the assignment so it'll take them directly to it. It's great for me because I don't think of those cool little extras during the busyness of the school year. NittanyJen
The best one is the one that suits you! I tried and tried to love HST. As someone who programmed SQL databases in my last job and knows several programming languages, I am pretty comfortable around computers, but I never felt HST was a time saver for me in the long run. I went back to paper for a bit, then tried a simple checklist app on the iPod/iPad, which I still think is an excellent choice for simplicity! Currently I am using the Mac App, Olly. *Lulu*
I am a pen and paper girl and have tried about half a dozen of the planners at Donna Young's site. Really you just have to play around with it until you find what works for you. And know that what works this year may not work next year, and that is okay too. Learning to give up the pursuit of the *perfect* in acceptance of the workable has been one of the most important lessons I have learned while homeschooling. (I am in a remediation course f it right now trying to plan a 5th grade year!) :tongue_smilie:
mrsanniep
I usually use a planner from the $1 bin at Target or printables from Donna Young's site that I then collect in a binder as we finish them. One for each child, done in pencil so I can erase or move things around as needed. I usually plan each week on Sunday nights. Lesson planning doesn't have to be complicated or high-tech. It's whatever you prefer!
ednkirstin
I usually plan each week on Sunday nights. This is one reason I use HST. I'm the kind of person who just won't plan during the year, because I'm too wiped out from school all week. Instead, I'll end up letting things slide. I like having the ability to schedule the whole year when I'm fresh and excited about the upcoming curriculum. If I have to make adjustments (because life happens), the reschedule button is there to rescue me. :)
