Jeanne in MN
I tried dying a nylon petticoat royal blue and it came out lavender! The waist band and thread are royal blue (because of the cotton content, I'm sure), but the nylon ruffles and satin ribbon edging are lavender. I used RIT dye which said it works on nylon, but use vinegar-which we did. I'm at a loss and my dd wants this to go with a dress she is making for 4-H. Any ideas on how to fix this and get royal blue?
Closeacademy
There are a lot of great tutorials online if you look for them. I dye yarn sometimes but only do wool or such and use koolaid or egg dye. But there are other dyes out there and things you can do. You can also overdye and you might get something more like you are wanting. Wish you the best of luck with this.:001_smile:
Jeanne in MN
Thank you Closeacademy! I did some research and I think I need an acid dye and Rit is not that kind-evidentally the colors in Rit can seperate with fabrics like nylon. I'm off to check out video tutorials-I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the suggestion!
Mrs.Gregg
I dye a lot of yarn, wool and other fibers. I'd suggest trying Dylon. It seems to work really well when with most other fabrics. http://www.joann.com/dylon-permanent-fabric-dye-many-colors/prd45370/
Jeanne in MN
Thank you Mrs. Gregg! I was wondering if Hobby Lobby or Michaels would carry dyes; I hadn't thought of Joanne's.
