Ecclecticmum
The activity books have art & craft projects in them. Theres a "cave Painting" activity. And for info/further stuff I usually google "oldest cave art" etc
BugsMama
I am- I have Gardners Art through the Ages, which is a college level art history text. Its a good starting place for art. I'm teaching art classes this year, and plan on incorporating as much sotw 1 as I can. For pre-history: We started with this virtual tour http://www.lascaux.culture.fr/?lng=en/#/fr/00.xml and talked about cave art and shaman, then painted our own cave art on rolls of brown mailing paper. You can dilute paint in a spray bottle to show how cavemen left their hand print signatures, use leaves, twigs, bark to paint with (which lends to a good conversation on texture), make your own paint with dirt and water, and so on. BugsMama
(sorry posted too soon) Basically, I start with Garners, then look to see what is scheduled in the activity guide, and then google away.... either until I find lesson plans I like, or until I feel *inspired* enough to write my own lessons. This is an AWESOME resource for Egypt http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hi/te_index.asp?i=14 not lesson plans, but information. This set is fun- we are using it to stamp in clay http://www.amazon.com/Fun-Hieroglyphs-Metropolitan-Museum-Art/dp/1416961143/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342105579&sr=8-1&keywords=fun+with+hieroglyphs Edited July 12, 2012 by BugsMama
Alte Veste Academy
I integrate A Child's Story of Art (samples of the painting and architecture books can be found at christianbook.com), Art in Story, Hands-On Ancient People, and various other books. DickBlick.com is also a great resource for ideas for art projects. I also like to strew art books. Cave Paintings to Picasso is one we own but I get most from the library. I also own and particularly like 30,000 Years of Art, but it is expensive and heavy, so not as practical with very young kids who can be rough on binding. Don't know how old your kids are.
