*********
Oh good grief. Seriously?! Every. Single. Time. Cereal EVERYWHERE. It's a good thing that boy is cute. :D
BigMamaBird
No. No she does not. :glare: But, I can live with it . . . most days.
clarkacademy
She is almost 8 now but yes mine could. She wouldn't have been allowed to touch it if she couldn't pour it. I am all about them doing for them self when they can actually do it. It didn't take much for me to teach her how to without a mess.
tmulcahy
Mine are 13, 11, and 9. They still make messes when they pour stuff. Come to think of it, I do too sometimes:D. I am trying to teach them to clean up their work area when they are finished. The problem is that they go from place to place and leave little messes in so many areas that they forget where they are supposed to clean:glare:
Chris in VA
LOL! Maybe you could put the cereal in a container that's easier to pour. And do lots of MOntessori-type pouring activities! (And maybe some Monti sweeping activities, too....;-))
GoVanGogh
I don't know. My 10-year-old boy just dropped his glass of apple juice straight down on the floor. That is one way to clean the kitchen floor. And counter. And walls. And front of fridge. :tongue_smilie:
swellmomma
haha my almost 9 year old is the messiest one, dd4 does a better job, but even my teens end up with some spilling (though dd12 it is usually just a couple peices), ds13 I finally had to tell him he has to use a measuring cup to scoop it out rather than pour because he would have it dumped everywhere. Joani
Somehow we have one 7 year old who can't pour a bowl of cereal without dumping out the whole box, and one 7 year old who can make himself pancakes and a smoothie (and pour the smoothie out of the blender). Dmmetler
Mine can pour OK, but can't open a box/bag without mangling it to the point that you can never close it again. I think she learned pouring via my sighing and telling her to put it in another container :).
melissad2
My almost 6 yo wants to pour things himself but since I do not enjoy cleaning sticky floors half a dozen times he's not allowed.
Rebel Yell
My 10yo, who is a Black Belt in karate, plays piano, is in chime choir, clog dances, and plays banjo... all with great large/fine motor skill, cannot pour a bowl of cereal without making a mess. :glare: If I want to be sure she has eaten breakfast I don't have to look for her dirty bowl... I just have to walk into the kitchen barefoot. :ack2:
thescrappyhomeschooler
My 8 yr. old makes a mess whenever he pours ANYTHING! The 9 yr. old is more persnickety and only occasionally makes a mess.
merry gardens
Pour, yes. Open the box, no.
Sasharowan
Mine just asks over and over and over and over until someone pours it for him. Youngest of four, he's getting way to used to being the baby!!
6packofun
Some cereal bags/boxes are almost impossible to open without ripping! Drives me batty. Anyhow, my 6-year old's can get their cereal just fine because I let them scoop it out with their hands until they can pour better. LOL!! AmyontheFarm
It wasn't the pouring that drove me batty, it was taking a large bowl filling it to the top, pouring 2 cups of milk on top and eating 5 bites. I made one child (12) sit there and eat the whole thing one morning and it took ALL morning! Now, they have specific bowls they can use eat cereal out of. They can fill it up twice if they would like too, but they must finish the complete bowl.
Farrar
The best I've been able to do is to train them to clean up the mess. Sometimes.:glare:
justLisa
DD yes, DS maybe. He is a little more fumbly. I put things in easy to pour containers with a spout.
Munchkins_mama
My 10yo, who is a Black Belt in karate, plays piano, is in chime choir, clog dances, and plays banjo... all with great large/fine motor skill, cannot pour a bowl of cereal without making a mess. :glare: If I want to be sure she has eaten breakfast I don't have to look for her dirty bowl... I just have to walk into the kitchen barefoot. :ack2: Same here. My 10yo DD is a fabulously talented martial artist and is also very artistic. She thinks with the artistic side of her head and that obviously doesn't include thinking about cleaning up half a box of cereal that misses the bowl. :glare: As someone said, good thing they are cute. My 6yo is usually fine, but we have 1/2 gallons or she wouldn't be able to pour the milk. Edited July 11, 2012 by Munchkins_mama
mama2cntrykids
Heck, my NINE year old has trouble with this:glare:. I'm always telling him, "Clean up your mess W."
SKL
I'm stunting my kids for life, because we don't even pour cereal. The kids drink a liquid yogurt and eat dry cereal out of the box. The reasons are (a) they are not good about finishing their cereal with milk, and I hate wasting food; (b) I'm not looking for ever more dishes to wash; © they seem to prefer it that way. That said, they still manage to drop cereal on the floor. That is why their "theoretical" chore is to sweep the floor. (Theoretical because they don't actually do it very often.) Maybe a couple times a year I let them try to pour cereal and milk into a bowl. They seem a bit scared to try (at age 5). That could be because I buy milk in gallons. My kid sister was making her own breakfast before age 2, however. Then again, she was cooking meals alone at age 4. Not a fair comparison. LarlaB
Yes, my DD could when she was 6...but No, DS could not (ok, hes just turned 5, but I'm making an educated guess based on what I've seen so far- shudder :D :) Lets not talk about the milk!!! newlifemom
Did not read the replies but Bwahahahahahahahaha! I'll one-up you and ask how to get a 10 yr old to stop. :D
MariannNOVA
http://www.containerstore.com/shop/kitchen/foodStorage/specialty We have something similar to this and the one pictured above is wht we bought for Heather and her family -- they have a problem with ants and we thought this would help. meggie
Pigby can't even EAT cereal without making a huge mess. There's no way he's getting access to the bag and carton.

acablue
Nathan would be devastated if he dropped a Froot Loop, so yes, he can pour his own cereal properly. The other two. :glare:
