HappyGrace
I always though it was Tee-vahs, but the Zappos website has little videos of each shoe and they pronounce it "Teh-vahs". Which is it? How have you always heard it pronounced by other people?

Tap
I hear most people say Tee-vahs, but it is actually Teh-vahs.
myfunnybunch
Straight from the horse's mouth: teh-vah. Bummer. I thought there'd be a horse. :( Cat
wintermom
I've always heard and said tee-vahs.
HappyGrace
Thanks for the link, and the opinions-sounds like the company pronounces it Teh-vahs, but in the common lingo by others it is generally pronounced Tee-vahs? Is that true for everyone reading this-you've heard it as Tee-vahs?
Caitilin
I say tee, but when I called about an exchange last year, they said tay. :001_smile:
stripe
Oh well, that's better than the bread baking place that has videos about the zo-hee-rushi, as if it's Spanish.
EKS
Straight from the horse's mouth: teh-vah. Whoever came up with the spelling obviously could used a dose of AAS!
Chelli
Whoever came up with the spelling obviously could used a dose of AAS! I believe it is Spanish and that is how you would pronounce that word in Spanish.
claire+3
Actually Tevas are from Israel. "Teva" means nature in Hebrew and Israelis pronounce it teh-va. Most Americans look at you funny if you pronounce it that way though.

YaelAldrich
It's really pronounced Teh-vah, although even I say tee-vah. It is the Hebrew word for nature.
Amy in NH
Phonetically it should be tee-vah.
Kathryn
American phonetics don't matter on foreign words. I've not talked about them with many people, but everyone I've heard says teh-vuh.

That is so funny! When I saw that word I immediately would have pronounced it Teh-vah, but because I would have thought Spanish pronunciation instead of English. Interesting that the Hebrew would be pronounced the same way! Thanks for clearing it up, ladies!
