momo4 Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 We are borrowing a Saxon 87 2005 printing edition and I have a chance to buy (at a very good price) the fourth edition from 1993. The newer edition says with pre algebra. I thought I remembered the older edition was not as good as the newer, because it left some important pre-algebra chapters out. Is this correct or is the older edition just as good? TIA Quote
Sue G in PA Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 The newest edition includes more pre-algebra to make it more like the old Alg. 1/2. Does that make sense? In the older editions, a strong math student would go from 7/6 to Alg. 1/2 while an avg. student would go into 8/7. Now, the new 8/7 includes more pre-alg. so students go from 7/6 to 8/7 (if using the new edition). HTH Quote
momo4 Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 Thanks Sue! That is what I thought I remembered. Can they skip 1/2 Algebra after completing the newer edition 87 now? Quote
Sue G in PA Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I *think* they can skip Alg. 1/2 after the new 8/7. Don't quote me on that. You might want to contact Saxon and see what they recommend. I think I remember something on the sight saying that a student should do both to get the most out of it. I'm not positive. Sorry. Quote
