Quick Latin question

Recommended Posts

In the sentence:

Amici Dei regnum Christi laudant.

Is "regnum Christi" considered the direct object or just "regnum"?

Okay .. two questions ..

The second is, how do you diagram it? Is it like this? (a little imagination needed as I'm not sure how to do this at all in type):

amici Dei | laudant | regnum Christi

That looks straight out of Henle...:)

I think "regnum" is the direct object and "Christi" is a possessive adjective describing regnum. So the skeleton is Amici regnum laudant, which is what you would put on your main diagram line. Dei and Christi would go on a slanted line under the nouns they modify.

That's my take on it, anyway!

I think you're right.

 Busted.

Okay, I'm ahead of myself. I didn't need to diagram that. It hasn't been taught yet. All I had to do was underline the direct object.

So, in the process of waiting I went ahead and racked up about 15 more questions so I went ahead and ordered the answer key. I think I was expecting the answers to be in the back, or something.
