Peek a Boo Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 duh. I feel so stupid. =============== I received this email from a friend today. And, being the doubting Thomas I am, went immediately to my role of Reynolds wrap. I've been using aluminum foil for more years than I care to remember. Great stuff, but sometimes it can be a pain. You know, like when you are in the middle of doing something and you try to pull some foil out and the roll comes out of the box. Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start over. The darn roll always comes out at the wrong time. Well, I would like to share this with you. Yesterday I went to throw out an empty Reynolds foil box and for some reason I turned it and looked at the end of the box. And written on the end it said, "Press here to lock end". Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place. How long has this little locking tab been there? I then looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too. I then looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had one too! I can't count the number of times the Saran wrap roll has jumped out when I was trying to cover something up. I'm sharing this with my friends that did not know this. I hope I'm not the only person that didn't know about this. Quote
nukeswife Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Yep, and my parchment paper and saran wrap too. Quote
RebeccaS Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I had no idea! I had to immediately check out my foil and saran wrap. I'm pleased to report that my foil is now safely locked and will never fall out of my box again. Alas, my saran wrap will continue to drive me batty as it does not have those clever little tabs.:glare: Quote
Danestress Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 That it's amazing the information that a $200,000 education won't buy you! I had no idea, and that's the best thing I've learned today! Dana Quote
elegantlion Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Wow, I didn't know that either. I'll have to check all of mine. Quote
Remudamom Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Oh. My. Goodness. My kitchen will never be the same. Quote
Cheryl in NM Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Don't feel bad, I just discovered it last year!! duh. I feel so stupid. =============== I received this email from a friend today. Suzanne in ABQ Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Oh, I'm sorry Peek. As I was reading your post, I was thinking, "Why doesn't she just poke her finger in the little tab thingies on the ends of the box?" I think I first noticed those things about a year ago. I have no idea how long they've been there. My wax paper doesn't have them. I'm glad you'll never again drop your foil in your lasagna! G'nite, Suzanne Quote
shalom22 Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I thought you were just suppose to squeeze the middle of the roll like a mad woman and that would keep it from falling out of the box. Who'd a thunk? Quote
Michelle T Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Now I've learned something today! Michelle T Quote
Kris Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Oh good grief! I knew that -- and forgot it -- but now I know it again! Thanks! Quote
sdWTMer Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 duh.I feel so stupid. Ugh. After all these years! I'll have to show that one to my dh! He's not gonna believe it either. Quote
clarkacademy Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I never knew!! You have saved me future aggravation THANK YOU!!!:grouphug: Quote
akmommy Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Count me as one of the clueless, I just checked and both my Reynolds Wrap and Cling wrap have 'em. I wonder how long they have been there?:glare: Quote
sleepy Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Um, actually, now that you mention it, I think I did know that. Past tense, that is. I'm pretty sure dh pointed that out to me at some point. Seems like I remember thinkin' that was pretty nifty... And then, somehow, I managed to forget it. :001_huh: So, thanks for the reminder. I need all the help I can get. :tongue_smilie: Quote
sabrina Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I just broke a nail locking in my foil but it was well worth it! Quote
Ellie Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 who knew??? Every single box of wrap in the drawer has it. Sheesh. Quote
gardenschooler Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place. How long has this little locking tab been there? I then looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too. I then looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had one too! What?!?!? You mean all those times I've sat and tried to find the end of the Saran Wrap because it got all wrapped up and stuck to itself could have been avoided? What about the times my aluminum foil has torn down to a tight, tiny spiral? I've wasted half my life. I need to go lie down. This is shocking news, Peek! :D Quote
Ferdie Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Well......I'll be. There are "locks" on my foil, too. Quote
sdWTMer Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 with this new bit of info! They will be the envy of all the public schooled kiddos. :tongue_smilie: :D Quote
Mom to Aly Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I have not bought plastic wrap since college (and I'm 42) because I couldn't deal with it!!! Thank you!!!! Maybe I'll get brave soon and buy some--then again, maybe not?? Quote
Amy in Orlando Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Oh man, I've never noticed that before~ Thanks!!! Quote
Soph the vet Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I think I discovered this amazing info sometime in my 30's but thanks for the reminder as I just seem to take the lock for granted these days:D. Quote
tinag Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Hmm. Who'd a thunk. My dh is going to think I'm a genius.:) Quote

Prairie~Phlox Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I learned this just recently from an e-mail of the sorts. Quote
sdWTMer Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Just thought that I would bump this one up! It has opened up a whole new world for me. ;-D Quote
Kathleen in VA Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Wow, cool! I think learning this little tidbit of info definitely justifies my spending 500 or so hours on these boards the last month, don't you? Quote
WTMindy Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 No, but I can get mine to jump out of the box and cover the dishes all by itself. ;) Sorry, just being silly. Quote
Tammyla Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Yes. I received this information via e-mail a few weeks ago. I was glad to be alone when I realized what a ding bat I was. I'm always going on about reading directions too. :D duh. I feel so stupid. =============== I received this email from a friend today. crazycoffeechic Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008   What?? didn't know about it either. Just locked my foil!:hurray: Thanks!!:D Quote
mycalling Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I found that once and tried it...it didn't work at all and I thought "how stupid" and never tried again. It must have been just that roll and I'll try it again since it's working for all of you. Quote
Mom2GirlsTX Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I absolutely had no idea. :001_huh: DD and I ran to the drawer where we keep the foil, saran wrap, etc and sure enough...there they were, the little "push tab to lock" features. Who knew??? :D Thanks for brightening my day. Quote
mcconnellboys Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Oh, my! Thank you! (Boy, do I feel sheepish.....) Quote
Mom2legomaniacs Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Oh good grief. I feel like a doofus. Their commercials never showed that feature! Thanks for sharing. Learn something new every day. Quote
percytruffle Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Oh man....slinking off to check my locks....when did this happen.... Quote
Plaid Dad Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Target brand plastic wrap does not have the tabs, and it's the bane of my existence. (Well, okay, it's not that bad, but it does annoy me.) That's the price you pay for cheap plastic wrap. Quote
momofkhm Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Sure enough, my foil has it. The glad wrap and another clear wrap are on rollers. My parchment paper does not have it though. Quote
Pensguys Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I didn't know either and my dh got the email about it having the tabs. He went through and fixed all my alum foil and plastic wraps! LOL Quote
Amy in NH Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I had to run and check, but whaddaya know! The Reynolds foil has the tabby things, and the generic parchment too! But the Reynolds wax paper doesn't!? :001_huh: And neither does the Sam's plastic wrap that I purchased at Walmart. That is one feature I will be shopping for in the future! :) Thanks, Peek! Quote
