kls126s Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I've heard of others collecting postcards from all 50 states and making a scrapbook for it, but I have only a hazy idea of how to go about doing that. Have any of you ever done a project like this? Quote
kls126s Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 I'm still thinking about this - why couldn't we organize one of these on this board? I'm sure we have a lot of US states represented, as well as quite a few countries. I'm thinking about something along these lines. We'd have to figure out what to do about privacy - I know not everyone (inc. me!) would want their address posted on a website somewhere... Quote
Bambam Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Would it be possible to set it up somewhere with free web hosting (freewebs maybe?) and have folks simply scan the front of their card, write a brief blurb about their state/their town/their family/whatever and also scan the back of it. Everyone could simply print it put it in their scrapbook. No money for postage required. Quote
Johanna Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Oh, but the idea of the dc getting mail is so much fun!! I am game, if you can figure a way to organize it.....hmmmmm....:001_rolleyes: We are doing a state study and this would be a nice addition! Quote
kls126s Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 Oh, but the idea of the dc getting mail is so much fun!! That's what I was thinking - getting mail is half (or more!) of the fun! Hmmm... I'm pondering. I don't mind to organize it, if I can find a way keep info secure. Maybe a closed Yahoo group? Quote
Johanna Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Hey, thats a good idea! I like the idea of a yahoo group! Quote
sarah in tenn Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Also, Is there some way to write to each state and get a welcome packet or something? My son did this when we went to China, and I treasure all the things in his China scrapbook. just another thought... sarah Quote
kls126s Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 I created a private Yahoo group for this project. If you are interested in participating in a postcard exchange, or even think you might be interested, go ahead and subscribe and we'll work out the details as we go. This is open to anyone around the world. WTM_Postcards-subscribe@yahoogroups.com Quote

I would like to do this, but am considering how much it will cost to buy and send out numerous postcards. But I know my kids would love this! Quote
prim*rose Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 FWIW we did a Flat Stanley project that was so much fun! We hosted some Flats in return for others hosting ours. We also sent our Flat to friends & relatives all over the world and got some neat things from our hosts. We included a journal with the Flat and our hosts took pictures with the Flat doing different things & sent back postcards and souvenirs. There are several sites with Flats you can make and Yahoo groups where you can meet people to host them or trade Flats. Quote
Cathy in IL Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 We are part of a homeschooling Flat Stanley project. We currently have 2 flats from Virginia visiting. I have plans to send our flats to the D.C. are, Autralia, and England. It has been a fun project, but the postcard exchange sounds good too. I will check out the group. Thanks for setting it up! ABQmom Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 We participated in the Flat Stanley project for several years. We had to stop because people got increasing careless with our flats. They would lose them, and never send anything back to us. It started to get discouraging. We also got too much stuff from people that we didn't have time to look through. All we really wanted was a couple of postcards. :001_smile: Quote
