Osmosis Mom Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 a 6-8 week writing segment online? Times two kids times how many classes pr. year? I remember 5-6 years ago when that same class was $35, believe it or not. Rant over. Quote
angela in ohio Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Nope. Use the money to buy the IEW TWSS and teach yourself to teach writing instead! :) Quote
mama25angels Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Yes!!! If you have the money and can afford to do it. Quote
Anne Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I certainly wouldn't do it for multiple children. I would follow angela's advice! IEW is a great way to learn to teach writing, imho. Now I would consider putting an older student, say high school level, in a writing class if the student isn't working hard enough for mom (sometimes an outside teacher is very helpful!) or if they just need a bit more than mom can give. CoffeeBean Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Its cheaper than piano lessons, swimming lessons, etc. I don't think you have to do it for eery week of the year - just like swimming. You get the basics and then practice on your own until you need to get more pointers. CoffeeBean Quote
Chris in VA Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 We used Write@Home's essay course--it wasn't cheap, that's for sure. But we would have paid more for a writing tutor, and we got enough bang for our buck that it was worth every penny. I do think IEW is a great idea. I just suffered from a case of "I don't wanna" when it came to teaching myself to teach writing. Quote
Carmen_and_Company Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 We used home2teach during Taz's 11th & 12th grade years, and was well worth the money. I plan to get my middle dd through CW:Diogenes & perhaps, one more CW level & hand her off to Eileen & Co at Home2teach, and willingly would pay $70.00 per session (although, Home2teach costs less per session). Then, during Storm's senior year, she can dual-enroll in college composition or finish the year through Home2teach. After BTDT with my oldest, I see no reason for me, anyway, to worry about writing skills, and look forward to handing composition over to someone else as soon as possible. Quote
