Baby Girl Names...

Recommended Posts

If you can bear another baby name thread.... We found out last night that we are having another girl! We are looking for short (6 letters or less or so or not with many syllables) and classic girl names but they cannot start with an L, 2 out of our 3 kids have L names- and it cannot be a flower name as one girl has a flower name and one doesn't. Bonus points for a Saint name :) Any ideas?

OH, thanks, so far I like;

Claire

Anne (although dh prefers the spelling Ann)

Sophia

Maria

Obviously I should have a bias towards Claire. But Sophia or Maria would actually be my pick. I campaigned for Maria during one pregnancy and did not win that round.

Congratulations!

I'll join you in loving "Maria." I'm a sucker for West Side Story and The Sound of Music. I sing those Maria songs all the time.

The most beautiful sound I ever heard:

Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria . . .

All the beautiful sounds of the world in a single word . .

Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria . . .

Maria!

:D

Maybe I'll get a granddaughter named Maria . . . :001_wub:

I also love Claire and Jane. So sweet and feminine and classic.

I loved the name Claire but it didn't go with our last name, either. (Way to 'clunky') But I really wanted to use it.

So, we added and 'Anna' to it. She's AnnaClaire and we frequently get comments about how 'different' and beautiful it is.

Bonus - 2 saints names (almost - I'm stretching a bit with Anne/Anna) in one.

I didn't know Molly was a form of Mary. Molly Cate is very cute. I have Catherine and Therese for middle names so those are out here. We like Anna but it wouldn't work with one of dd's names. AnnaClaire is pretty though. Dd #2 was almost Rosemary but I don't know that we could do that now w/ already having one flower name. Everyone we told it to hated it though. We didn't officially name dd2 until 2 days after she was born and dd1 was named the moment she was born.

I actually know a Kateri. Dh is now bringing up Isabel, again. Before even becoming pregnant I always wanted to name a daughter Isabel but then the name became crazy popular and it certainly is not short like the other names, sigh. Of course we inadvertently named our last daughter a name in the top 5.

I know some Isabels will go by "Isa" (EE-sah) as a nickname.

From all the names mentioned, I think Molly Catherine/Cate is adorable, Sophia is lovely (but, like Isabel, very popular now), and if I ever have another I'd lobby, for Maria again.
