KatieJ
I don't know about gnats, but I have trapped fruit flys. Put some white vinegar in a jar. Poke some holes in the lid and leave it on the counter, or wherever the buggers are.
RoughCollie
We lasso them with dental floss. That should be right up your alley.

lisamarie
I do fruit flies by putting vinegar, water, and dish soap in a jar. No lid. They go in and then drown.
Hillary in KS
Remudamom, it was apple cider vinegar in a jar. Take a piece of paper and curl it into a little funnel. Put it in the mouth of the jar, but don't let the paper touch the vinegar. The flies will go into the funnel to get at the vinegar, but can't find their way out. Guest amyshermangun
Pour a small amount – an inch or so – of apple cider vinegar into the glass. The cider vinegar has a nice, fruity aroma that fruit flies simply cannot resist. Using the scissors, snip the corner off the plastic baggie. This should created a hole just large enough for fruit flies to pass through, but not so large that it will be easy for them to escape. Amy S.
