3lilreds in NC Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I remember that we had a thread about this not too long ago. Someone posted about a bike with a nice, wide, comfortable seat. Anyone remember what I'm talking about? I tried to find the thread and had no luck. Dh said I could get a bike (and a trailer for Schmooey) for my birthday, so the girlies and I can ride bikes together. I really, really hate the sore bum feeling I remember from riding bikes before! I'd like to get one of those with the nice seats. Any recommendations? Quote
Jen500 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Well, you can also buy a bike seat separately from the bike. Just another option. Quote
Nicole M Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 bikes have come a long way in the last few years, and you can get a super bike with a comfy saddle for about $300 now. this was not the case 5 or 10 years ago -- then you had to pay 7 or 8 hundred dollars for a bike that came with a comfy saddle. but saddles can be purchased pretty cheaply, even if you don't like the one that comes with a new bike, $20 or so. I have a gel saddle and I use my bike for a lot of my transportation. also, to avoid the sore bum issue, which we all hate!, try easing into your biking. that is, don't go a super long way on the first trip out. if you live in a hilly area, definitely get a bike with a lot of gears and learn how to use them. a sore bum is nothing compared to hauling a lot of weight in a trailer uphill on a bike that doesn't have a gear to accommodate that. I speak from experience here...! good luck. Quote
Lolly Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 You really have to test drive them. Dh took me to get a hybrid bike, cross between mountain bike and old-fashioned leisure bike, and I ended up with a mountain bike. The salesman looked at me, talked to us, and pulled out the middle-ager hybrid. I gave it a trial run in the lot and hated it. I tried just the leisure bike. Hated it. Tried the mountain bike and took off. I am comfortable in that position and really like the extra power you can get in it. I was told that what I said I wanted and the way I road were at total opposites. Guess I'm a kid in an old lady's body. Also, the seat can be replaced on any bike. You can get that comfy wide seat for any bike. Quote
