LNC Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 http://www.smarrpublishers.com/statement.html I've been doing a little reading on junior high and high school lit programs. Just have no words:001_huh:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Julie in CA Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 That really was all over the place, wasn't it? I don't disagree with many of the points, but what an *odd* statement of faith! Quote
angela in ohio Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Finally, those who are willing to say what they mean instead of copy and paste bland platitudes. :001_smile: Quote
VaKim Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Not sure what the problem is. I like it! :) Edited to add, that if they had called it a "statement of faith," I agree that it would have been weird. But they call it their "worldview," and it is for the most part mine too. Quote

For one thing, imo it's really not very well written, and coming from the perspective of a literature/language arts publisher, I think that's exactly what I said--odd. It's entirely possible to say exactly what you believe about things while remaining within a framework of behaving professionally, and without purposefully alienating possible customers. It's not so much that I necessarily disagree with their points, just the way they're stated! Quote

I've found with some companies that cater to homeschoolers that they give no clue to their beliefs up front, but then you talk to them in their booth at convention or listen to them speak, you find out what they really think about things (or about their customers, even. ;)) It did come across as more of a rant than a well-written, well-thought statement, though, I agree. Susie in MS Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I cheer him for being willing to take a loss of business because he is being honest. He could be a bit more graceful about it, but at least everybody knows where they stand in his eyes. ;) Quote
