Summer Lit Choicse for DS 16

Recommended Posts

Ds 16 has read or listened to:

  • Beowulf (Loved)
  • Dream of the Rood
  • The Inferno (Loved)
  • Confessions
  • Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (Loved)
  • The Faerie Queen
  • The Canterbury Tales (Hated)
  • Piers the Plowman

Oh yeah, he threw Ivanhoe down and refused to read it after 2 chapters! We are currently listening to William Shakespeare: Comedies, Histories, and Tragedies by Prof. Peter Saccio whenever we get in the car.

To finish TOG Yr 2 ds has the option of reading/listening to:

  • The Prince
  • Utopia
  • Don Quioxte
  • Paradise Lost
  • Robinson Crusoe
  • Gulliver's Travels

What are the top 2-3 ranked in order to finish before the summer is over and we start Yr 3?

Edited to add: I have a total of 6 weeks. I want to give him a little break before starting school on 8/20.

Of course, which to choose depends on your priorities and how much summer you have left. (We start our regular school year in August - augh!) Personally, I'd vote for

The Prince

Robinson Crusoe and/or Gulliver's Travels

There will be many cultural references to the above three, and the last two are probably more accessible (better for summer?) Don Quixote is very long.

Just my two cents. It should be interesting to hear what others think.
