Guest im4homeschool Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I am doing SOTW 3 this next year with Biblioplan with older kids. I still love SOTW, but I noticed toward the end of volume 2 the activities were getting sparse, low elementary and little boring. I would only buy SOTW 3 activity book for activities and maybe some literature suggestions, but I am using Biblioplan, so literature suggestions aren't a huge deal, So if anyone has purchased SOTW 3 activity book and knew if there were many activities in it, could you please let me know. My kids are older, so they don't want to do things like make a costume or hat out of a shirt or construction paper, etc. I guess you can't beat Ancient Egypt!! Quote
Testimony Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 You can't beat Ancient Egypt, but there are some activities in the AG of SOTW 3, but the closer you get to the modern stuff, the more serious it becomes. There are still crafts and activities to do in AG for volume 3. Volume 4 is when it get really sparse, but I guess it is harder to do with modern stuff. Blessings in your homeschool journey! Stacey in MA Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 We did SOTW3 last year w/ DS9. He is NOT a project kid - could do without them if I didn't insist once in a while. We did a lot with him for SOTW1, fewer in SOTW2, and then not many in SOTW3, mostly due to his lack of interest in them. We use the AG heavily for lit. suggestions. We also do the coloring pages and map work. But honestly, I don't remember the projects this year - I guess we didn't do many from that book. (We were doing ancients w/ my DD6, so we did more there!) For supplemental things, we did LOTS of extra reading from the library. A few books on tape historical fiction books (like George Washington's Socks, Mr. Revere and I, American Girl Felicity stories, etc.). Also, some United Streaming video clips, as well as a few historical fiction videos from the library, like the "Dear America" series. We also visited Philadelphia and Williamsburg in May, at the end of our school year. That was great! We DID use another project book with SOTW3 though, called Colonial Kids (at the library, or $10 at amazon), and liked many of the projects in there. They were simple enough, and pretty quick, which appealed to DS more. There were plenty of cooking recipes, which he enjoys doing: http://www.amazon.com/Colonial-Kids-Activity-Guide-World/dp/155652322X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1215432157&sr=8-1 You know, if you could do w/out the lit. lists, then you could just buy the coloring pages and outline maps (student pages) for less money ($12): http://www.peacehillpress.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=30 Sorry I'm not much help. Good luck! - Stacey in MA Quote
