Lyme disease

Recommended Posts

Is three weeks of doxy...whatever the name is...is that enough?

We went to the doctor today and he agrees that it is a bullseye rash. In addition, my son told him he's been having severe headaches, a stomachache and extreme fatigue, all signs that he has lyme disease. :glare: My son doesn't like to let anyone know what's going on so we need to discuss the importance of talking to the adults since we can't feel what is going on with him. I was the same way (and still am at times) so I understand but at the same time I'm so frustrated. I hope that waiting this long didn't cause even more problems. The doctor will have us back in in a week or so, so if 3 weeks isn't enough, I can ask for another prescription at that time.

Is there anything else I need to keep an eye on with him? This is unknown territory for me. As it is, I can't tell my sister or she will have a heart attack and never let her son outside again. :tongue_smilie: This is the only safe place to discuss this without someone freaking out on me.

You definitely want more than three weeks -- my ds was on it for 6 months and on ceftin as well for 6 months.

Let him take epsom salt baths as he is likely to feel achy when the abx begins to work and 'herxing' happens (you can google it).eat, you will want to be vigilant about his having good, whole foods, no sugar, lots of water and d3 supplements either from the doctor or he can take the drops. The abx cause inflammation as the infection goes away and the inflammation can be abated with d3.

There is a lyme disease social group on this board -- if you can go back through the posts, there is some good info there.:grouphug:

Thank you so much for all the information. I'm not sure I can convince the doctor to give me 6months worth of antibotics but I'll see what extra I can get. I'll go hunt up the lyme social group and see what other information there is.

It will be near impossible to get abx for 6 months unless you are going to lyme specialist -- i think 45 days would be good - 60 days if you can get it. I ordered extra from Canada just to have on hand, but we were able to get in with the specialist so it was a moot point.
