Are California Achievement Tests regarded as too easy?

Recommended Posts

In my state, the CAT is one of the nationally normed tests that are accepted. My personal opinion is that yes, they are not one of the more rigorous tests out there. My youngest is bright, but not a rocket scientist and he routinely scores in the 99th percentile.

My son rates our state test as a bit more difficult. He still exceeds, but not at the upper end like on the CAT. This year, I'll use the Stanford test again, because the results are much more in line with what I think his abilities are.

If you just need a test to meet your state requirement, then CAT is fine, but you are not likely to get any diagnostic value out of it.
