momto2Cs
Best place I have found to learn about Oak Meadow is through nancextoo's blog... Home's Cool: Life Without School
Closeacademy
I have used both of those levels and am getting ready to use 5 again this year. 2nd: Nice and slow, old fashioned animal stories, sweet books to read (not my child's thing though), math is fun but you are going to need to supplement it because there wasn't problems for her to do. Science was the best. We had so much fun with the science and social studies in Oak Meadow 2. It was like the daydreams of Charlotte Mason or Waldorf. 5th: The science and history were great. The writing was a bit much for my dd and she doesn't like to read the books that they had on the list. We really enjoyed the "plan a trip" geography project. The grammar was a good review for her. It was a good year with a lot of progress made. And I am looking forward to using it againg this year with my younger dd.:001_smile:
asmall
Both my kids loved Oak Meadow. We used it for several grades. The only advice is do not buy an older version, we did and my daughter's third grade syllabus was easier than the first grade we had used a couple of years earlier. The new versions are up to standards, but the older versions are more Waldorf, and teach a lot less. AL

The new versions are up to standards, but the older versions are more Waldorf, and teach a lot less. AL My experience as well. However, if you are comfortable adding to the curricula, the older versions have the same feel. For example, in OM 2 the older version social studies is mostly about a calendar and rhythms of your life along with your community. In the newer version of OM 2, there is the above and it also includes Ancient Cultures History, Geography and Biographies of significant people in history. It has the same beauty but a lot more meat. Hope that helps.
