HappyGrace
It's hard to tell from the samples. I did hear there was a Hake 4 coming out this fall, but grammar is so much repeat, I wondered if it would be ok to just put him right into Hake 5. He did a combo of FLL3/GWG3 this yr. I'm wondering if the vocab is hard in 5? Or anything else that would make it not work for a 4th grade boy who is average (math is his strong point). EKS
My (advanced) 4th grade son found Hake 5 to be fairly easy this past year. Prior to Hake, he did GWG 3, MCT Island, and MCT Town. The vocabulary is fairly easy, as only two (frequently related) words are introduced in each lesson and then practiced over many lessons. You can always slow down to half speed if the lessons are difficult. If it takes your son longer than about 30 minutes to do the lesson from start to finish, it is probably too difficult. Some ways to make things easier on a younger kid: read the lesson aloud, have him do the practice problems with you as scribe, and allow him to write in the book workbook style.
