dalynnrmc
In compiling my huge recommended reading list, I'm finding quite a few lists that have a wide variety of levels of books all listed together. For instance, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea on the same list. :glare: I used to check BookAdventure for book levels, but haven't been in a while, and I know it often didn't have a title. What are your favorite sites to check a recommended reading level for a book? Does anyone know of a site which not only recommends a level for the child reading the book, but also recommends a level at which a child would enjoy having the book read aloud *to* them? Thanks! Five More Minutes
Scholastic provides reading levels (grade), Lexile measures, and interest levels for many books. I usually start there.
Hunter
Thank you for asking this. I'm interested in this topic right now too. recently I saw the flesch-kincaid reading ease scale being used at http://manybooks.net/
TracyP
Yeah, Scholastic is the best that I have seen. It is quite accurate and gives you both interest level and reading level, so you can easily see if a book would be better as a read aloud. I've found it reasonably accurate for my purposes.
Chrysalis Academy
I use the Accelerated Reader site, usually - it also gives a reading level for the book, and an interest level (lower grade, middle grade, upper grade). www.arbookfind.com. I'll have to check out the scholastic site and see how it compares.
Chrysalis Academy
Ok, I just did a few comparisons out of curiosity: the scholastic site rates books at a lower grade level than the AR site. Good to know. Here are the comps I ran: Book/Scholastic/AR Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle/4.6/5.2 Peter Pan/6.1/7.2 Alice in Wonderland/5.9/7.
