My3Munchkins
Do you give your 3rd grader an assigned reading list? If so, what's on your list?

2_girls_mommy
Sonlight worked for us for 2nd grade, so I think I will use their list again for lit. Plus I will choose various SOTW 1 selections each week.

My3Munchkins
Thanks! I'll check out MFW, SL and Ambleside. Do you have your DC just read the books on their list or read them and then answer questions, do activities, do narration, etc?
Mrs Twain
I use the Vertias Press lists in addition to Sonlight and maybe some others. VP has a lot of the same books that have already been mentioned. I choose books that are a little higher than their reading level. I have my kids read aloud to me for at least 15 minutes per day from these books. We work on fluency and expression. I also test them with comprehension questions orally.
Coffeemama
No, not for third grade....but I do SUGGEST books and stock the book basket with great quality literature that I think he'll enjoy. I've already given him a heads up that next year (4th grade) he will have one assigned book a month. Other literature will continue to be guided choices. Canadianmumof5
Is it just me or does anyone else feel as though there is a big jump between 2nd & 3rd grades for the suggested reading lists on a lot of these sites? You go from Frog & Toad in grade 2 to The Moffats in grade 3?
coastal academy
We used Sonlight for years and this year we are using Heart of Dakota's Readers. Both are fantastic.
