maryibug
I have a son who will be going into 4th this fall, and I have done *very* little grammar with him so far...I tend to be pretty lax in that dept....so I am thinking I will ease him into FLL but I am wondering whether to go with Level 3 or Level 4..? Both descriptions on the website say that they can be used as an introduction to grammar with an older student. Any thoughts?
starlashine
If you have not done grammar a lot previously, I would go for FLL3 personally. I have not used it, as my son is going into FLL 2 next year, but from the reviews on amazon.com it seems that 3 reviews the parts of speech and such from 1+2 before getting into anything else. maryibug
Yes it does, thanks so much! Now one more question, if you already owned Rod & staff 3, would there really be any point in buying the FLL 3? If I just used what I have (R&S 3) this year, then theoretically he would go right into FLL 4, right? I am just feeling guilty about buying something else and wondering if I really need to spend the money. Thanks for any input! Mary
starlashine
I have not personally used R&S, because I heard it is very dry and that would not be a good fit for my son. That being said, I have also read that their program is quite rigorous, so you would likely be fine using R&S 3 then moving into FLL 4. Maybe one of the many fine persons on this board who have used R&S could help you more, though...

The only issue I have with FLL is that they Edit the poems, but now that I know, It is esy to printout the real thing off the internet. My dd KNOW their parts of speach! Also, FLL3 has diagramming and the lines are already draw for the student. I understand (?) R&S the students have to draw their own lines. I hope this is of help. I *think* the poems in FLL3 might not be editted - at least I've heard they're better and I thought that was what was meant by "better." I haven't used R&S, but I'm just a few lessons into FLL3 with my oldest and I really like it. It is gentle and it introduces diagramming very well. I honestly like FLL3 (so far) better than FLL 1/2.
