MCT level 1 (Grammar Island) -what do you recommend I buy?

Recommended Posts

Do I need the full package? I know there have been old threads on this but when I searched over the last 2 days, I've been unable to find a specific thread I recall reading. I think Spycar or perhaps someone else suggested what books to buy in terms of when the teacher manual is necessary vs. not.

Do I want the basic package? Would I really benefit from going with the complete package?

I know this has been hashed out before but I can't seem to find the thread I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance! Looking forward to getting it ordered :D

Get the basic package. I remember one time while I was using Sentence Island where the answer was visible in the TM, so I wrote the sentence up on the whiteboard instead of letting my dd see the answer. There are little bubbles in the TMs with points to discuss, but its really ok for the student to be able to see those. The only book that you really need a student book for is Practice Island, and that is included in the basic package.

The Basic Package is fine, but I don't think one even needs the Student book of Grammar Island from that package. This is especially so if you plan to use it with a child one-on-one snuggled up together (as opposed to teaching across a desk or across a room, where the Student book mint make sense).

There are a very few "give-aways" in the TM for Grammar Island. There are "work arounds" for that, and my child was not thrown my the small teaching notes in the TM.

Honestly, I found it more disruptive having two (essentially the same) books and having to juggle them during a lesson that if I had just one. I imagine reasonable people might differ.

I would get either the Basic Package or the Basic Package less the Student Grammar Island (the latter would be my choice I'd life gave one "do-overs").

I can't tell you how much we've loved MCT. I hope you do to!
