That sign does not mean what you think it means

Recommended Posts

What does it mean?

If you're doing something on behalf of someone (the veteran now gone), it's something that person would do if they could. So it's like a veteran thanking a veteran. I don't think that's what they meant to say. Perhaps they meant to say thank a veteran in honor of one now gone? Honor those who are gone; thank one still here?

That's poorly phrased, I agree. It's unfortunate because their original sentiment was a good one. It was just worded badly. I see unfortunate signs all the time. A couple of weeks ago, the church sermon sign in my town said, "This week's sermon: The need to no Jesus."

I did not think that was what they meant at all. I did call them to let them know of their unfortunate word choice. They did correct it. However, they tend to do things like that a lot. I can't be everyone's grammar police all the time. ;)
