It sounds as if you know your limits and this trip would be beyond what you are willing to deal with. I find that people who will adamantly push you to do something uncomfortable would never do the same for you if the roles were reversed. Seriously the whole "turn the carseat around" thing would just tick me off...seems like a very controlling person that I would rather not be stuck with in a campsite. I suggested camping closer to home; her response was that I ought to flip dd's rear-facing carseat forward to see if that helped with her crying during the long drive (we have an infant seat, not a convertible, and she knows this but apparently did this very thing with one of her children...?).
