Whereneverever
First, I live in Wyoming. I can get cabbage in store but everything slightly odd will need to come from amazon. I'm wretchedly sick and pregnant. Kimchi is one of the few things that regularly sounds good, but is not easy to procure here. Anyone have an easy recipe for making it? Please?:bigear:
sparrow
I have not tried this recipe, but the only odd thing you would need to get is fish sauce. Emergency Kimchi Let me know how it is, if you make it!

Susan in KY
I am so glad you posted this! Thanks!
sparrow
Again, something I haven't tried :001_smile:, but I've heard you can sub out soy sauce....which honestly seems a little odd to me. I found this: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/48418 ....for some vegetarian versions of fish sauce. As long as you have the red pepper, I'll bet you could whip up something comparable to kimchi with what you have on hand. Good luck. I understand the need :D. I'm giggling at the thought of somewhere here selling seaweed. Yes, I have the red pepper!
Montana Peach
The fish sauce should be at any local bigger store. I am in Montana, so I feel your pain, but Albertson's and Safeway have it.
myfunnybunch
I made this recipe. It was really good. Our exchange students at the time liked it. :) Cat
KungFuPanda
I wonder if I could leave out or sub the fish sauce because that recipe looks great! You could order it online. It would only take a few days to get there. You 'really' can't get ANY??? Can you call an Asian restaurant and ask them to sell you one? Better yet, ask them where to buy kimchi :D or order some online http://www.grannychoe.com/
*Inna*
I made this recipe. It was really good. Our exchange students at the time liked it. :) Cat Thank you for posting this recipe! The one I had was telling me to leave the big pot of kimchi to ferment on the kitchen counter and the stink was unbelievable. My husband begged me not to make it again (poor thing). But it jars, in the fridge- now we're talking! :D
Soror
I've made it several times- using a recipe like the previous one if not the same one but then I never like it. Granted perhaps I just don't like it as I've never had any but homemade but sometimes it sounds good to me.
