HappyGrace
etc? Not really a spelling book, or even vocab, I wouldn't think it would be, but something that helps them work out those sticky wicket type of usages. I know Rod and Staff English does lay/lie, sit/set, etc., but something more in depth than that. Maybe it would be spelling? This would be for an advanced 7th grader-she's a natural speller and great at grammar; I just want something to round off some of those rough edges that haven't seemed to come up anywhere else. Sebastian (a lady)
Try searching online for a style guide. I've had good luck with some put together by college writing centers or big newspapers. The one for The Economist is a blast to read.
usetoschool
I have a book - The Bugaboo Review by Sue Sommers - that covers most of the common problems of spelling and word usage. It is written by a high school teacher and has some clever ideas for remembering the rules. Edited April 26, 2012 by jcooperetc
