long shot... Campgrounds around Chattanooga, TN

Recommended Posts

We are looking to make a trip up to the Chattanooga area next month in our camper. I am really bad about picking out campgrounds. I would like somewhere with clean bathhouses, a decent playground (or any playground at that), and it needs to be within reasonable driving distance to Chattanooga itself, but not necessarily right there. I want to take my kids to the children's museum up there and maybe roam around the town for a day or two, but our primary goal is to be camping. Any suggestions?

I live near this area and am familiar with several nice campgrounds,

Chester frost park is on the lake (Hixson)and has all your amenities listed. It located North of Chattanooga.

Booker T Washington is across the river in Harrison Tn.

If you don't mind a 45min drive to Chattanooga, there is Cloudland Canyon, it is very nice with lots of walking trails.

Here's a few websites,

Chester Frost is ran by the Hamilton county.

Booker T Washington is a state park

Cloudland canyon is in GA

Please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you. Happy camping!

another vote for Chester Frost. I haven't been, but my sister used to live near there (her in-laws RV permanently and stayed/work there, so she spent lots of time visiting the area w/her 4 kids). Here's what my sister wrote about Chester Frost Park when I asked her:

I would recommend Chester Frost Park. It's a state park, so very reasonable rates, lots of shade, right on the lake, they have a beach area & several nice playgrounds. It's easy to get to but you feel like you're out in the wilderness when you get there. They have a 2 week maximum stay, no minimum, & sites for both tent & rv camping with electric & water.

wherever you decide, enjoy your trip!
