jenn-
We are looking to make a trip up to the Chattanooga area next month in our camper. I am really bad about picking out campgrounds. I would like somewhere with clean bathhouses, a decent playground (or any playground at that), and it needs to be within reasonable driving distance to Chattanooga itself, but not necessarily right there. I want to take my kids to the children's museum up there and maybe roam around the town for a day or two, but our primary goal is to be camping. Any suggestions? dakarimom5
We stayed at Raccoon Mountain campground when we went to Chattanooga a few years ago. It was clean with nice bath houses and there was a playground and a pool.
classics4us
I live near this area and am familiar with several nice campgrounds, Chester frost park is on the lake (Hixson)and has all your amenities listed. It located North of Chattanooga. Booker T Washington is across the river in Harrison Tn. If you don't mind a 45min drive to Chattanooga, there is Cloudland Canyon, it is very nice with lots of walking trails. Here's a few websites, Chester Frost is ran by the Hamilton county. http://www.hamiltontn.gov/parkrec/Maps/CampingMap.aspx Booker T Washington is a state park http://www.state.tn.us/environment/parks/BookerTWashington/ Cloudland canyon is in GA http://gastateparks.org/info/cloudland/ Please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you. Happy camping!

Woodhaven
Mandie is right. Chester Frost Park should meet your needs. We used to live in Hixson, and my kids used to go to Scout day camp at that park. Chattanooga is pretty - I miss it SO much. Have a great time!! TheReader
another vote for Chester Frost. I haven't been, but my sister used to live near there (her in-laws RV permanently and stayed/work there, so she spent lots of time visiting the area w/her 4 kids). Here's what my sister wrote about Chester Frost Park when I asked her: I would recommend Chester Frost Park. It's a state park, so very reasonable rates, lots of shade, right on the lake, they have a beach area & several nice playgrounds. It's easy to get to but you feel like you're out in the wilderness when you get there. They have a 2 week maximum stay, no minimum, & sites for both tent & rv camping with electric & water. wherever you decide, enjoy your trip!
