Need ideas for dirt CHEAP warm beach vacation to take dh to for his bday

Recommended Posts

He desperately needs a vacation on a warm beach-so burned out. He has not taken a whole week's vacation since our honeymoon 15 yrs ago! (he just takes long wkends, etc) This would be a surprise for his early June bday, but we are SUPER short on funds. I'm not sure we can even do it, but I thought I'd ask around here how cheap we could get away with it, possible locations, etc. Because of not bringing the kids, we could prbly only stay away 5 days.

We'd drop the kids with my mom in Albany, NY, so we'd be traveling from there. I thought of Cape Cod, etc, because we could drive and it would be cheaper that way, but it won't be warm enough there.

Anywhere further south (Myrtle Beach, etc) than that might be too long a drive for that short time period. (Although if we drive, we could take the kids too and maybe stay a whole week so that's not totally ruled out, but I'd love to whisk him away somewhere.)

Where could we fly/stay for super cheap? Should I try to get a package deal, and if so, where should I look online? The thing that started me thinking about this was an ad came up on my yahoo home page for 3 days in Mexico for $469 or something. I don't think we could afford more than that, but I'd like to get 5 days if possible. Any ideas?! I don't even know where to start.

I'm open for any suggestions of possible locations OR websites to look at for cheap trips. I know of Priceline.com from hearing the ad on TV, but I want something where I can look at rock bottom deals and pick one. I don't care where we go as long as it's warm there with a nice ocean beach!

I like to check the package deals from the different airlines.

Not sure what airport you are flying out of but you can get cheap cheap packages to Las Vegas (no beach but nice pools) and usually Florida is affordable.

I was thinking the same. Vegas deals can get pretty cheap. The pools are great. We recently stayed at the Aria, and got a fabulous room upgrade with a sunken tub and the most amazing view. I got a wonderful massage in a pool -side Cabana. Very private, and had wine served before. I almost fell asleep.:D I was one relaxed girl and that made dh happy. :) I wouldn't take kids to Vegas (I know people do, but if I did, I would not leave the hotel or pool area. No way would I be walking my kids on the strip.) You really can just see a show, hang out in and by the pool, chill and be together. You don't have to walk the strip. The Bellagio is enough. Shops, pools, resturants, a show. You don't have to leave the hotel, or even go in the casino. I've known people to do Vegas for under $500 for a long weekend. Cheaper, if it's 110 degrees in the shade. ;) That's the only reason I mention Vegas.

The Bellagio is my fav hotel, and deals should be coming up after spring break. You could see the Cirque Ocean show there. It's amazing.

Cape Cod in June is nice. Have you considered Nantucket? There is a hotel called Beachsider there that is extremely reasonable. (Now that I am thinkiong about it, I may have the name a little off. I'll check. It's right in the middle of everything and they often have excellent deals.) ETA: The hotel in Nantuket is called The Beachside. It's actually a motel, but very nice, with a nice pool. Everything in Nantuket is pretty. They have very strict building codes, and other architectual rules. No garish colors allowed. No big signs etc. There's not even a McDonald's on the island. Nearly every street looks like a postcard.

I don't know how how 'cheap' you're trying to go, but Michigan has lots of beaches, and you could drive there in a day from Albany.

It's not very hot here in June; a quick google seach tells me the average temp is about 76 in MI in June.

If you'd like more info, pm me. It's pretty different from what everyone else has been suggesting, so I'm not sure if it's the way you wanna go. But I know of a nice little town on Lake Huron where you could rent a place right on the beach.

I love JetBlue, a bargain airline which flies to Cancun http://www.jetblue.com/ . Their vacation packages are also worth a check (I stayed in Orlando for four nights last year for $100 more than the cost of a flight.)

I detest Spirit Airlines (AWFUL customer service!!!), but it may be worth a look....

Right now, along the Riviera Maya (Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum), I am fairly confident good hotel deals can be had (There is a mass exodus after Easter holiday....). I have had good hotel luck with Hotwire and "name your price" Priceline.

If you want mega-cheap, you might want to consider camping on the beach. If you have access to a camper, RV or tent you could be right on the beach and stay extremely economically.

Here is a site that lists several beaches on which you can camp from NC all the way down to FL.
